The AMD3 Foundation
What: The AMD3 Foundation was founded by Dr. Anthony M. DiGioia III in 2003. The AMD3 Foundation provides a variety of programs designed to improve healthcare in the community while offering resources to individuals who otherwise would not have access to such services.
Why: The AMD3 Foundation has been providing innovating, high-quality educational programming and charitable services since its founding in 2003. Since inception, the Foundation has maintained a commitment to providing services for the local community. Through the Bone and Joint Health Series and the Walk it Forward volunteer program, AMD3 has reached thousands of participants and helped provide valuable information related to bone and joint disease.
Impact: Through scholarship and internship programs, the AMD3 Foundation makes an active investment in the area’s next generation of leaders and innovators. The AMD3 Foundation has maintained a commitment to providing services for the local community as well. With the start of Operation Walk Pittsburgh in 2008, the AMD3 Foundation has expanded its reach beyond the city limits by providing free hip and knee replacement surgeries to those in need, not just in Pittsburgh, but around the world each year.
Happening Now: Each year, the Operation Walk Pittsburgh team travels around the globe to help patients in need. In the past, the team has performed hip and knee replacement surgeries in Guatemala, Panama and Honduras. This year they will take their first trip to Havana, Cuba.
